ST. PAUL, MINN. (November 30, 2011) — For leaders in higher education advancement, a standardized performance analysis is difficult to come by. Historically, colleges and universities have used different criteria to measure fundraising successes and shortcomings, making it difficult to achieve a clear picture of trends in giving and areas for improvement – especially when measuring an institution’s success relative to other institutions’ results.

Now, though, a new tool delivers standardized measurement of key success factors in higher education development. The Reeher Platform has introduced the Reeher Vista Fundraising Profile and Performance Scorecard, a revolutionary year-end performance report that helps advancement leaders identify areas of success and opportunities for improvement. The Vista Scorecard examines a development department’s performance versus what its performance should be, given the factors unique to each organization.

By uniquely applying predictive models, the Vista Scorecard revolutionizes how the industry can view performance, providing institutions with the first-ever analysis of how they should be performing using the same yardstick across institutions. The report, which was unveiled during an exclusive customer-wide webinar in October, provides detailed insight into three areas — constituent potential, annual fund trends and major giving performance — delivering an unprecedented understanding of how alumni give, major gift officer performance and missed opportunities.

While each Vista Scorecard report is unique to the subscriber’s institution, the standardized metrics allow for comparison across universities. This lays the groundwork for institutions to compare themselves to similar universities, giving senior-level advancement leaders a better picture of how their fundraising efforts measure up at a higher level. The Vista Scorecard is already helping three key networks of institutions including private research universities such as Johns Hopkins University, Duke University and Clemson University; large public universities such as the University of Cincinnati, University of Delaware, University of Kentucky and University of New Hampshire; and elite private liberal arts colleges such as Vassar College, Wellesley College, Haverford College, Emerson College, Hamline College and Hamilton College.

“The early feedback we’ve received on the Vista Scorecard is that it is giving institutions insight that they have never had before. By combining our alumni valuation criteria with their trend information they can see where to invest and where to improve,” said Andrew Reeher, CEO and founder of Reeher LLC. “This is an industry that wants to get better together.”

Reeher has found that performance is best measured by looking at three factors: the wealth of constituents, the likelihood of constituents to donate and how development staffs reach constituents. “The Vista Scorecard closes that third gap in understanding,” Reeher said. “Our commitment to organizations is to help them improve their results and accountability; it’s not just buying a benchmarking or performance report. The Vista Scorecard provides a framework to work together to improve performance.”

The Vista Scorecard features dozens of eye-opening charts and graphs that immediately highlight strengths and weaknesses in an advancement department. Depending on the institution’s subscription, the Vista Scorecard includes in-depth analyses of factors such as alumni participation by graduation year; potential of unassigned constituents based on affinity to donate; and individual officer performance.

“Knowing the trends and numbers at this detailed level is a powerful tool for advancement leaders,” Reeher said. “The new report will help leaders easily share data with their teams and give them the information to make important long-term decisions, such as to re-balance major gift officers’ portfolios so that their time can be spent on the constituents most likely to donate.”

The new Vista Scorecard report will be included in the Reeher Platform subscription at no extra cost. The report provides a powerful complement to Reeher’s continuing stream of successful tools designed to improve higher education fundraising, including the Reeher Community Network, Targeter and Alumni Affinity Clusters.

“Every tool in the Reeher Platform is designed to make the improvement process more rapid and less expensive for advancement leaders,” Reeher said. “We believe the new Vista Scorecard report will help leaders at the colleges and universities we work with continue to improve their results, become more agile in positive process change and produce breakthrough fundraising results.”

The private Haverford, Penn.-based college, which serves approximately 1,200 students and more than 13,000 alumni, parents and friends, is using the Reeher Platform to increase retention of donors to its Annual Fund, as well as identify and predict the best new prospects.

“For a school of our size, we’ve developed a sophisticated and well-resourced alumni relations and annual giving program, and have benefited with a strong annual fund participation rate of 48 to 50 percent,” says Craig Waltman, senior associate director of alumni relations and annual giving at Haverford College. “We noticed a pattern of some donors giving only every other year or every third year. This on-again, off-again pattern had been happening for awhile, and we needed to understand and address it to continue Annual Fund growth.”

“With the Reeher Platform, we’ve been able to pinpoint the people we’re retaining from year to year – and those we weren’t – and develop strategies to bring those who were sliding off the giving wagon back on again,” says Diane Wilder, assistant vice president for institutional advancement at Haverford College. “One of the other important functions the Reeher Platform provides is the ability to help us uncover new Annual Fund prospects. It’s a great tool that our research team can use to sift through the prospect pool and identify the best prospects more quickly than we might have otherwise.”

The Haverford College Annual Fund program is well staffed, with gift officers traveling across the country to meet with past, current and prospective donors. According to Wilder, the Reeher Platform has made a valuable difference in helping gift officers to determine additional prospects to meet with during their travels through its unique geographic targeting and web-based, mobile functionality.

Executive-level advancement and development leaders at colleges and universities across the country have one thing in common: the ongoing need to keep their fingers on the pulse on the success of their major giving campaigns, including the status of current gifts and those in the pipeline.

Today, that critical objective is much easier to achieve. The Reeher Platform has introduced a new tool to provide fundraising executives with global views of their gift officers’ performance and major giving campaigns through intuitive reports that evaluate the overall success in real-time, making any problems and opportunities immediately visible.

The new Reeher Platform tool is the first-of-its-kind, Web-based reporting function designed specifically for executive leaders in higher education. The new reports can be customized by the user, and feature easy-to-scan charts and graphs that illustrate key metrics that immediately give executives the ability to look at the pipeline and evaluate the value of each relationship, and determine whether gift officers are catering to the highest-expected givers. The tool allows leaders to see how existing relationships are performing, as well as how to reach new prospects to continue sustainable growth.

To see how the new executive tool works, a brief video is available at http://bit.ly/ReeherExecReporting.

“Over the past three or four years, the rules of thumb that fundraisers have traditionally followed have become less and less reliable,” said Andrew Reeher, CEO and founder Reeher LLC, which developed the Reeher Platforms. “Higher-ed fundraisers are grappling with a new reality, and are working to reinvent how fundraising works. This new tool provides a systematic, proven data-driven approach designed to deliver a better return on investment.”

The tool is unique to the market as it blends predictive models with management tools, advice, support, and a proven process, all designed to help fundraising executives make informed decisions based on real-time facts. The reports are flexible and easy-to-use, starting with global views of the campaign, and with the click of the mouse, executives can drill down multiple layers to see individual profiles of donors. By connecting to existing infrastructure, it captures and compares past, current and upcoming prospects to forecast and plan for the future. These views also report how the campaign is doing overall, including previous years compared to current status, how much was granted and which officers were involved, proposals in the pipeline, as well as trends indicating how the team is covering the organization’s pool of prospects.

“While working closely with fundraising executives at universities and colleges across the country during training and implementation of the Reeher Platform, we learned that they had a specific set of questions that if they had the answers to, they could do a better job of applying results, as well as keep their board members, deans and others informed,” said Cricket Buntje, Reeher Vice President of Customer Care.

The new executive tool will be included in the current Reeher Platform for major gifts, and available to all universities and colleges who are currently using the platform starting in mid-August. It will also be included at no additional cost to new Reeher Platform customers for a limited time. The executive tool provides a powerful complement to Reeher’s continuing stream of successful tools designed to improve higher education fundraising, including the Reeher Community Network, Targeter and Alumni Affinity Clusters.

ST. PAUL, MINN. (September 9, 2011) — Reeher LLC announced that University of the Pacific has joined the Reeher Platform, a leading software service that improves higher education fundraising management. This marks Reeher’s fastest implementation timeline of just seven weeks from initial conversations to completion. While most Reeher Platform implementations take eight weeks from start to finish, the fast-track timeline allowed the Stockton, Calif.-based university to kick off its new fiscal year and major giving campaign with a clean set of data and new tools placed directly in the hands of development officers. The university, which serves approximately 7,000 students and over 50,000 alumni, parents and friends, is using the Reeher Platform to increase productivity and fundraising results in their major gifts program.

“We’re always striving to be best-in-class at what we do, seeking new and better ways to help our gift officers evaluate their prospects and support our goals with metrics and measurements,” says Cathy Dodson, University of the Pacific associate vice president of advancement services. “Over the years, we’ve looked at different products to help us achieve these goals, and found the Reeher Platform to clearly be a stellar product that outpaced the other solutions we researched in terms of ease of use, insight, functionality, turnkey set-up and fast turnaround time.”

Prior to partnering with Reeher, the university’s gift officers relied on cumbersome static reports that required assistance and time to prepare. The Reeher Platform has transformed the process and eliminated the gap in technology and time, making it easy for gift officers, researchers and university executives to pull up-to-date, interactive reports and summary information on the fly to make critical decisions and track progress.

“Each quarter and year, we look back and determine the big wins for the university. The Reeher Platform not only was voted one of the biggest accomplishments of the quarter but also of the year by our management team because it places dashboard style reporting and tools directly in our development team’s hands,” says Dodson. “We’re excited that the Reeher Platform is going to help us be the most robust institution of our size in terms of fundraising.”

While University of the Pacific is currently applying the Reeher Platform to its major gifts campaign, the new annual fund director will also be using the platform in the future to improve efficiency and return on investment within annual giving planning.

ST. PAUL, MINN. (August 16, 2011) — Reeher LLC announced that the University of New Hampshire (UNH) has joined the Reeher Platform, a leading software service proven to improve higher education fundraising management. UNH serves approximately 14,500 students and 127,500 alumni, parents and friends. It will use the Reeher Platform to efficiently manage and view data about donor prospects, applying Reeher’s customized predictive models to focus on those who are most likely to give.

“With the Reeher Platform, a state-of-the-art fundraising data visualization and decision support tool, our advancement staff can now view and interact with their data in ways we would not have dreamed possible even as recently as a year ago,” says Misty McCarty, Director, Advancement Services at the University of New Hampshire. “An added feature of the Reeher implementation was our first ever predictive model. This has given the Prospect Research and Management office a new and greatly improved way to sift through the thousands of potential prospects and allows us to draw focus to those who have the greatest likelihood to become engaged with the university as supportive friends and partners.”

The UNH team implemented the Reeher Platform in May, providing features to assist departments throughout the university. “The tool will support everyone from the annual fund team, who can now very specifically see the results of individual appeals down to the demographics of the respondents, to the alumni association which now has a geo-targeter tool to support the selection of best locations and audiences for events and chapters. The Platform will also be a powerful tool for major gifts officers, who can now track their entire portfolios in one place with both individual prospect profiles as well as personal performance management dashboards,” says McCarty.

ABOUT THE REEHER PLATFORM
Through its custom predictive models, management tools and Reeher Community Network, the Reeher Platform puts fundraising on the fast track, helping colleges and universities find up to 40 percent of new best prospect donors they didn’t know existed and uncover nearly 30 percent of wasted fundraising time, money and energy. With the Reeher Expected Value Index, universities and colleges can identify new donors, as well as see which donors to contact, predict the best major gift prospects and annual fund donors, and make more confident decisions about future strategies, appeals and goals.

The Reeher Platform provides information immediately, without having to wait for updated reports. It’s a SaaS-based platform, allowing advancement teams to quickly access the information they need from anywhere at any time, spending more time making contact with prospects and less time searching.

Xavier Selects Reeher Tools to Make Strategic Decisions Backed by Analytics for Sustainable Fundraising Success

ST. PAUL, MINN. (June 8, 2011) — Reeher LLC announced today that Xavier University has joined the Reeher Platform, a leading software service proven to better higher education fundraising management. The private Cincinnati, Ohio-based university serves approximately 7,000 students and 130,000 alumni, parents and friends. It will use the Reeher Platform to efficiently manage their data and apply analytics to making better informed, strategic decisions, including uncovering new donors, predicting the best prospects, and determining the best events and tactics to invest in for sustainable growth.

While Xavier’s university relations program has been successful, with two-thirds of the university’s largest funds raised in the last 12 years, the organization was concerned about donor fatigue, according to Gary Massa, Vice President for University Relations at Xavier University.

“To continue at this level of success and reach our goal of raising $100 million in our endowment campaign plus another $100 million in annual fund and capital campaigns, it’s critical for us to find new prospects, and to be efficient in doing so,” Massa says. “We have the capacity to engage and establish deep relationships with only 3,000 to 4,000 donors over the course of a campaign, so it’s important that we, like most other universities today, be diligent about focusing on finding and developing the best prospects. We were looking for a way to take our fundraising to the next level, and we’re counting on Reeher’s predictive models customized for our needs to help us make that happen.” The Reeher Platform also helped Xavier move quickly by being up and running within 10 weeks, three weeks faster than the university team had originally scheduled.

“We haven’t had anything like this before,” says Susan Abel, Associate Vice President of University Relations for Xavier University. “The Platform presents a way for us to manage and see the data and analytics in a much faster, streamlined way compared to before when it was very labor-intensive and time-consuming to pull multiple reports. The Reeher Platform also allows us to place the information directly in our staff’s hands to manage their own prospects.”

The Xavier team began implementing the Reeher Platform in May, and plans to apply it across all university relations functions for maximum effectiveness. They will use the analytics generated by the Reeher Platform to make strategic decisions about specific tactics and techniques. For example, the data will be applied to determine the number of alumni and donor events, who to invite, where to plan them and how to track and measure them.

Xavier’s executive council was instrumental in selecting the Reeher Platforms. “Our executive council is very excited to have this tool in place, and coming from a team that has more than 60 years of experience in advancement at Xavier, that means a lot,” says Massa. “We all feel this is something that’s going to make us better.”

ST. PAUL, MINN. (March 24, 2011) — Reeher LLC announced today that Otterbein University has joined the Reeher Platform for Major Gifts and Reeher Platform for Annual Fund. The Westerville, Ohio-based university serves approximately 3,100 students and 39,000 alumni, parents and friends, and will use the Reeher Platforms to increase productivity without significantly increasing the advancement department’s operating budget. Otterbein University selected the Reeher Platforms solution for its power in accessing alumni data and ease in analyzing the data to make informed decisions about projects and programming that will provide the best results for the university. The Platforms also let Otterbein move quickly by being up and running within two months.

Heidi Tracy, Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Otterbein University said, “I chose the Reeher Platforms because I know of no other product that offers the same analytic tools in a user-friendly format that allows the advancement team to be up and running in a short period of time. This is largely due to Reeher’s commitment to quality customer service and their team’s investment in the success of their clients.”

According to Ms. Tracy, it’s especially important for a small organization like Otterbein to make strategic decisions to maximize the results of programming and outreach. Data will play an integral role in their decision-making, and they were seeking a solution to provide easy, fast access to data directly to staff.

“I am not aware of any other product that offers the same scope of services as the Reeher Platforms, from the predictive scores to customized platforms, and to be up and running within a two-month timeframe is just unheard of,” says Tracy.

The Otterbein team began implementing the Reeher Platforms in January, and plan to apply them across all departments within the Division of Advancement for maximum effectiveness. They will use the Reeher Platforms to make decisions on solicitations, track events, measure the timing of communications and track costs and time spent on projects.

The Reeher Platform for Major Giving is a next-generation software service designed for managing gift-officer performance and prospect assignments. The platform includes tools for monitoring officer efficiency and evaluating officer portfolios. The Major Giving solution also provides analysis of major gift prospects, campaign pipeline management and on-demand reporting functionality.

The Reeher Platform for Annual Fund, also a Web-based software service, combines predictive analytics, interactive reporting, and powerful planning tools to help improve the performance of college and university Annual Fund campaigns. Reeher also provides a dedicated advisor to help maximize results and quickly meet top fundraising priorities.

ST. PAUL, MINN. (March 20, 2011) — Reeher LLC announced today that Emerson College has joined the Reeher Platform for Major Gifts and Reeher Platform for Annual Fund to maximize fundraising efficiency and effectiveness through a data-driven approach. The Boston-based private liberal arts college serves approximately 4,000 students and 50,000 alumni, parents and friends. Emerson College selected the Reeher Platforms to transform their major giving program and continue growing an established annual giving program. Emerson looks forward to rapidly implementing the software-as-a-service to analyze data about key prospects, and immediately place meaningful reports directly in the hands of gift officers.

The Emerson College advancement team has grown the annual fund by 110 percent over the past five years, after seven years of stagnant outcomes. According to Cheryl Crounse, Director, Individual Giving for Emerson College, they’re ready to grow Emerson’s major gifts program in the same way, but have been slowed down by the implementation process and reporting capabilities of a new university-wide database system.

“The new system was designed to meet the needs of the College across all business areas,” says Leona Burgess, Director, Advancement Services for Emerson College. “Unfortunately, it was not tailored to meet the specific needs of an eager and dynamic advancement team, which makes report writing significantly more challenging. Envisioning Advancement Services rolling out enough reports to support our new major gift initiative straight out of the gate is beyond overwhelming; we needed a flexible tool that will provide reports and analysis immediately, allowing my team to focus our time on other priorities.”

“The direction we’re moving toward is more accountability - all good fundraisers need to know where they need to be and how to get there, and the Reeher Platform is the road map to do that,” says Crounse. “We want to professionalize our major gift program, and Reeher is helping us do that in six weeks rather than the two years it would take if we tried to do it on our own. We chose Reeher for its functionality and speed to help us get up and running quickly, and allow our staff to be self-sufficient with access to the data and the ability to create their own reports. We’re also looking to the Reeher Platform to help us prioritize the second tier of prospects – the people we currently don’t know.”

“I am especially interested in developing clear and graphic reporting tools to help present analyses to the Board of Trustees,” says Emerson’s Vice President for Advancement, Robert Ashton. “While developing data analysis at a very fine level of granularity is important in managing day-to-day operations, working with the Board to set long-term strategic direction will be aided by the easy-to-understand visualizations.”

“When comparing options, we didn’t find anyone that measured up to Reeher,” says Crounse. “Like many colleges, we’re required to bid out projects to three other vendors, but for this one, we couldn’t find anyone else like Reeher to include. The Reeher Platform provided functionality, speed, and ease of use to help us build out our major gifts program, continue growing our annual fund and allocate staff resources wisely.”
